Altered Book Class samples

Greetings everyone!

I hope your weekend has been a good one. Saturday nights altered book class was great. Everyone has made a good start on their altered book. We have subjects ranging from Film noir/vampires to poems to what makes a home to wierd stuff. I wanted to post just a few of the samples so that you could all be inspired!

Altered Books this weekend !

Greetings Everyone! In the midst of tax mania I am trying to put the finishing touches on Altered Books #2 starting this saturday night. This time we will be cutting and adding windows and doors to our altered books. I will demo basic window/door technique and also what I like to call a pass through window. You can see scans of them above. Here are the details of this class: Saturday April 10th Where: LaDiDa café in Half Moon Bay Class: Altered Books #2- Windows and Doors Description: In this second altered book class we will experiment with creating windows and doors. Windows and doors are a dramatic way to present your theme. They are interactive and draw the viewer’s eye deeper into the art. So come and add a little mystery and magic to your altered book by adding windows and doors. Kit items to bring: Paintbrushes, Scissors, Gel Medium, Gesso, cutting mat and xacto knife and any images or personal elements that you would like to use in your book. April Class Schedule/Class on Saturday

Greetings, I thought that since it was April I should post my full class schedule for the month and remind you that I will be teaching Texture for Collage Artists this Saturday the 3rd at Palace Arts in Capitola. This seems to be my most popular class so if you missed it before then this is the time to catch it. I have included a couple of scans above. Here are all the particulars of April's class schedule and also Saturdays class: Saturday April 3rd Where: Palace Arts in Capitola Class: Texture for Collage Artists Description: In this techniques driven class we will explore ways to add texture to your art work using paint, paper, Gesso, Gel Medium, special texture mediums and Diamond Glaze. Each student will walk out with a tag book of Texture samples to use for future reference. We will be splattering paint so please bring paint brushes and an apron or smock to cover your clothes with. Then this class is for you! With shrink plastic just a little special coloring and the right stamps you can make your own fossils. You can even avoid the mess and bother of having to dig them out of the ground. Your fossils can then be made into unique jewelry. You will walk out of the class with a fossil pin and earrings. Please bring Scissors. I always think of Tall ships and mermaid images on ivory. Wood and Bone. In this 4th Shrink Art class you will learn the techniques to make white shrink plastic look like bone or ivory scrimshaw and almond colored shrink plastic look like wood. You can choose to make wood or ivory items or mix the two for a stunning combination that can be made into jewelry or decorative items for collage, cards or scrapbooks. Collage Challange collages

Greetings everyone!

My second collage challange class last night was a blast! I hope that everyone had a good time because I sure did. The theme was Alice in Wonderland. Experience ranged from a total art"virgin" to very advanced artists. But no matter what the level of experience all the collages created were exceptional and totally unique to each individual artist. I am excited to be able to post them at last. Unfortunately there is one collage missing. For some reason blogger will not accept the picture right side up! I will keep working on this and try to post the picture some time in the future. My appologies to that student. So check them out! Which collage is your favorite?

Collage Challenge

Greetings Everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend. I have to say that I just had a blast! On Saturday I taught my first Collage Challenge class at Art Max in Seaside. All I can say is Wow! The pieces created are stunning. This class went great and I think that everyone had a really good time. I was happy to see three new people in the class as well as some of my regulars. Since I am teaching this class again I will post all the collages next week so stay tuned. I really want to thank all the staff at Art Max. If you haven't visited this store you should. Its just a gem. I only wish there was a store like this available near me. On Sunday I taught Shrink Art # 3. This time we were making fossils. Again the pieces created in this class were wonderful. And all of them were totally different even though we were all using the same instructions. Thank you to Scrapbook Depot in San Carlos for allowing me to teach my classes in the shop. I also want to thank all the students that ventured out this weekend to take a class. You guys are amazing! I have one last class to teach in the Month of March. This is the second Collage challenge class and I just can't wait! Here are all the details: Saturday March 27th Where: LaDiDa cafe in Half Moon Bay Class: Collage Challenge #1 Description: How about a challenge? In this class you will be given an 8 x 10 stretched canvas, collage images and access to past collage instructions, texture mediums, paints and all the extra stuff I usually bring. You will then have 3 hours to create a collage using the techniques of your choice. The goal of this class is threefold: • To help you begin the process of understanding, recognizing and creating your own unique artistic style by incorporating all the techniques you have learned so far. • To prepare you for the challenges and time constraints required for shows and publication. • To practice and gain confidence creating art with the materials at hand. Here’s the kicker guys: you will not know the theme of the collage until the class starts. But trust me most of you will love it. At the end of the class we will have a mini art show and we will all vote on the winner. Better yet the winner gets a prize! So are you up for the challenge and the fun? Of course you are!
